Description
The Lastolite HiLite backgrounds range allows the photographer to work in a way that was extremely difficult to achieve in the past. With the HiLite the photographer can achieve a very soft light as well as 'High Key' photography in studio or on location and in restrictive spaces.
By rear lighting the white background itself there is no longer a need to use a background light behind the subject. Furthermore, because the background is actually illuminated it means the subject can stand virtually right in front of it without casting a shadow.
The HiLite background also works as a large rear softbox and illuminates the subject as well, meaning you can use just one other flash head or Led light to illuminate the HiLite to use it as a large wall of light. What's more, the whole thing is collapsible.
Xlite Wall Of Light Led Lighting Kit 2.5 X 2.15m includes:
- 1x Lastolite Hilite Background 2.5 x 2.15m
- 2 x Godox SL200II Daylight LED Light
- 2 x Standard Reflector
- 2 x Lamp cover
- 2 x Power Cord
- 2x Xlite 2.8m Air-cushioned Light Stand
With testing at Kayell Australia we have achieved the below settings:
Lastolite HiLite Background / Softbox 2.5 x 2.15m
2x Elinchrom D-Lite RX ONE Flash units mounted on each side of the HiLite set to minimum power we produced a setting of F2.8 at 100 ISO 1 Metre from the HiLite. When we raised the power to half power on the flash we produced a setting of F8 at 100 ISO 1 Metre from the HiLite.
We believe using two lights produces a more even light source on the 2.5m HiLite but the 1.5m and 1.8m units will work well with only one flash, but the front-lit edge may not be completely even across. It is important to note that the HiLite can be rotated and used on its short or long edge to suit prop shots from above or silhouette shots of the family.
2x Godox 200W LED units mounted on each side of the HiLite set to maximum power produced a setting of F2.8 at 400 ISO 1 Metre from the HiLite.
Our testing showed that the LED lights threw light in a more straight line and produced a lot less light/exposure than a flash. Our testing also showed the shape of the LED light source produced a less even exposure across the front edge than flash, we feel the shape of the flash tube enables the light to scatter within the HiLite more and produces a more even exposure across the front edge.
